Ammon Shipping and Transport (AST) was established in 1994, later that year, it became the agent of the Taiwanese giant container shipping line Evergreen Marine Corporation, which is considered among the largest in the world. Later on, AST became the agent of Evergreen Group's other shipping lines, namely Hatsu Marine, and Italia Marittima (previously known as Lloyd Triestino). AST is also the agent of the Taiwanese national airline Eva Air in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Recently, in response to the request and expectations of global customers, the four ocean carriers - Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd., Italia Marittima S.p.A., Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd. and Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd. - have signed a joint service agreement to adopt a unified common trade name, "Evergreen Line", for international marketing purposes, effective May 01, 2007. Evergreen Line operates the fourth largest container fleet in the world, with over 150 ships by capacity of approximately 560,000 TEU.

Today, Evergreen Line connects Aqaba Port on regular weekly basis with the world’s most important ports in the Far East, Indian Sub Continent, Europe, North & South America, Australia and the Red Sea.

AST believed in its dedication and day after day, it continued to register an unprecedented growth, making Evergreen’s share remarkable in Jordan’s market. Today, AST is controlling around 20% of Aqaba Port’s throughput.

In 2000, AST’s continuous initiative drive succeeded in attracting Evergreen to dedicate a unique service calling Aqaba port directly, breaking most carriers’ trend of transshipping the containers at a nearby ports.

Maintaining a high level of quality has been a priority for AST’s management; a dedicated Quality Control Department was established in 1998 and after one year, AST introduced Quality Management Systems into Jordan’s shipping industry by becoming the first shipping agent to be certified ISO 9002, and implementing a paperless system, through its in-house IT department, to increase work efficiency and availability of information. In 2006, a specialized Customer Care Division was developed to ensure the standards AST provides meet its customers requirements.

In 2005, AST once again proved itself by becoming the first, and until today the only, shipping agency to enter the Jordan Customs Golden List Program, which was created by Jordan Customs in collaboration with USAID and AMIR, and equivalent to the C-TPAT.
